Craigtoun is a well-maintained country park located just 2 miles from the historic town of St Andrews. With free entry, free parking and on-site café, it really is the ideal place for a great-value family day out. The park is dog friendly but we respectfully ask that you clean up after them and that they are kept on a short lead around the children’s play area.
For those who are looking for nothing more than a walk in the park, there is still so much to see in the 47 acres of well-maintained grounds that make up Craigtoun Country Park. Follow the Park Map to see the key features which include the Italian Gardens, Cypress Avenue, the Japanese Gardens and our National Iris Display Beds.
Craigtoun Country Park is steeped in history - from 17th century private estate to iconic 20th century visitor attraction and now a local charity success story.
See our timelineCraigtoun is renowned both locally and further afield for its beautiful gardens. Originally created and tended as the extensive gardens of a private estate, it later became Craigtoun Country Park under the governance of Fife County Council. A dedicated team of full-time gardeners were employed to maintain the grounds and plant collections until early 2020, when restructuring within the Council resulted in their withdrawal. Today, the gardens are run by the green-fingered volunteers of the Craigtoun Gardening Group, led by the Friends of Craigtoun.
